WWF SUNDAY NIGHT SLAM

THE COUNTDOWN TO IN YOUR HOUSE

May 17th

Todd Pettengil is your host

Los Angeles, California

Length - 40.00

Todd Pettengil in the ring.

Todd - Hello everybody and welcome to Los Angeles, California! We're live here in the city of angels, and we're just one hour away from what could be the greatest show in WWF history! Over the next sixty minutes, we're gonna be previewing this huge pay per view event, and we're also gonna have in-ring action as well. But firstly, the question on everybodies mind here in the arena, is Jeff Jarrett gonna show up? He stormed out of the WWF on Monday night with the world title in hand, and hasn't been seen since. The Roadog Jesse Jammes claims that he'll take Jarrett's place, but that has *not* been sanctioned by the WWF, and at this time tonight's main event is up in the air. The New Midnight Express and Jesse Jammes are all in the arena at this time, without the WWF Champion, and we'll try and get a word with them later on. But let's go to the ring, where it's time for our opening contest!

Pierre Oulette vs Jim Powers

Another squash for Oulette in an almost exact replica of his match on Thunder. Powers gets less offence in than Cicero did but the finish is the same. Cannonball wins it for Pierre in just over three minutes.

Pierre Oulette defeated Jim Powers in 3-16 [DUD]

Todd - We got a huge announcement at this point concerning the match between "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Sycho Sid. Earlier today, the WWF board of commission ruled that the winner of the cage match becomes the number one contender to the WWF championship. How about that folks? Sid's had his chance before and blew it, will he be stopped again if he gets by Austin? And I know there's a lotta people that wanna see the belt arond Austin's waist, am I right people?

Whenever two great forces collide, the carnage is devastating. When a hurracane is unleashed upon the earth, the damage done is incredible. When an earthquake rips through the surface of the planet, it brings about a living hell for those unfortunate enough to be in it's path of destruction. The west coast has seen it's share of earthquakes, and has seen it's share of carnage. But nothing can prepare the city of angels for the head on collision that will take place on May seventeenth. Nothing can prepare Los Angeles for the mesh of steel, blood and power that will be released upon it. Nothing can prepare Los Angeles for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin versus Sycho Sid.

Todd - I tell ya folks, that is gonna be one hell of a match. The cage is ready for construction, and man, it's awesome. 15 foot high steel, it's gonna be brutal. Vader and The British Bulldog are gonna be at ringside for this one, outside the cage, what role will they have when this match gets underway? Let's go back to May 7th, when Vader made his return to the WWF.

(From May7th Thunder)

[...following Austin, who's about to enter one of the dressing rooms. No Sid, and the New Midnight Express nearly die of shock when Austin kicks the door down. Austin flips them the middle finger and turns to leave, and *that's* when Sid makes an appearance. After nailing him with right hands, Sid throws Austin back into the dressing room, as the tag champions make a hasty exit. As Sid goes to powerbomb Austin on the concrete floor though, Austin counters with a back body drop. After throwing Sid into the wall a few times, Austin takes one of the mirrors of the wall and is about to smash it over Sid's head before it's pulled off him from behind. Austin turns around to see who did it and is met with a boot to the chest from Vader! Austin doubles over, and Vader smashes the mirror over Austin's back, shattering it. Sid has time to powerbomb Austin before the room fills with officials who somehow manage to break it up.]

Todd - In his ongoing battle with Sid, Austin looked to be outnumbered. Let's go back to this past week on Raw.

(From May 11th Raw)

[As Sid has ahold of Austin though, we see someone jump the guardrail and enter the ring! Dressed in street clothes and a baseball cap, masking his features, he nails Sid from behind and then dropkicks him to the mat. He then turns to hammer away at Vader, before sending both men out over the top rope. Austin goes after the guy, whips off his cap, to reveal "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith! Smith stares Austin down for a second or two, before leaving back through the crowd.]

Todd - Austin confronted the Bulldog three days later on Thunder.

(From May 14th Thunder)

[Austin - What I want to know son, is where you stand, and what business you had coming out here on Monday night.

Smith - Austin, what I want to say to you, is this. First of all, I’ve got a lot of respect for you, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. I’ve known you in this wrestling industry, for a long time. Secondly, I’ve spent the last six weeks, of my career, kicking Vader’s behind, all over New Japan. He can run from me all he wants, but no-one outruns... The British Bulldog. I guess what I want to say is that I would be honoured to be in *your* corner, this Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Austin pauses and looks at the crowd.

Austin - Hell son, I’ve known you for a heck of a long time too, not personally. And at times, you ain’t been that trustworthy a guy.

Smith - What I’m telling you Austin, is that you can’t take Sycho Sid and Vader alone. You’re gonna need someone in your corner. You can trust me or you can tell me to get out of your face, but the fact is, who else have you got to watch your back?

Austin smirks, paces for a moment, before turning back to Davey Boy and shaking his hand.

Austin - Okay son, you show up on Sunday night, and you watch my back. You step outta line though, if you got some ulterior motive here, then I won’t hesitate in stunnering your ass into the ground.]

Todd - That's brought us to where we are tonight. There's been rumours flying around that this was gonna be turned into a tag match, but that ain't gonna happen folks. It's gonna be straight up one on one action, and it's gonna be huge! We're gonna go to more live action now, non title match between the cruiser champion Chris Chetti and Silver King. Why is it non title? Because Devon Storm has the belt, and hasn't been seen or heard from since Thursday night. Anyway, I'm gonna get out of the ring now so the action can begin.

[Cruiserweight Champion] Chris Chetti vs Silver King

Relatively short match here as Chetti, who has faced Silver King before, has little trouble with his opponent. King does get *some* offence in though, and comes close to getting a three count on more than one occasion. A frankensteiner for two and a half on the five minute mark is as close as he gets, and Chetti then dominates from that point on. Double springboard moonsault gets Chetti the three count.

Chris Chetti defeated Silver King in 7-28 [*.75]

Pettengil re-enters the ring and hands the microphone to Chetti at his request.

Chetti - ...

Storm jumps into the ring on Chetti's blindside, and nails him with the cruiserweight belt. The belt is smashed against the champion's face several times before Storm throws him to the outside. Whip into the guardrail follows, before Storm pulls Chetti by the hair down the aisle and into the backstage area. Chetti meets head on with the arena wall, before being busted wide open with one more hit with the belt. Storm is eventually dragged off by security, leaving Chetti a beaten wreck on the floor.

On April 6th 1998, history was made as Jeff Jarrett became the World Wrestling Federation champion, the presence of Sycho Sid cheating Shawn Michaels out of the title. Two weeks later, Michaels had his chance to regain the belt, but this time it was Jesse Jammes that turned the tide once more in Jarrett's favour. On Sunday May 17th, Michaels has one more chance to defeat the undeserving champion. Will it be third time lucky for the Heartbreak Kid? Or will Jeff Jarrett close the book on Shawn Michaels, once and for all? Find out, only on pay-per-view!

Todd - That's right folks, only on pay per view are you gonna see all the action here tonight. But the big news right now is that the WWF cruiserweight champion Chris Chetti has been taken out of the arena in an ambulance, thanks the attack by Devon Storm. Chetti of course, is scheduled for tag team action later tonight on the pay per view, with Adam Bomb against Owen Hart and Marc Mero. There's very little chance that Chetti is gonna be back, so what's gonna happen? Handicap match? Who knows. All we know is we now have two matches on this mega event up in the air, and it's gonna be interesting to see how they develop. One tag team match that is for sure gonna go ahead, is Crush and Savio Vega against The Headbangers, 'cos that's coming up right now.

The Headbangers vs Crush/Savio Vega

No match here at all as the action begins on the outside and never gets started in the ring. It's a wild brawl around the ringarea, as all four men batter each other with anything close to hand. The scene fills with WWF officials and security as the referee gives up any hope of getting this match on straight. Mosh and Thrasher walk back up the aisle as this segment comes to a close.

No contest

Michael Cole backstage.

Cole - Welcome back from the break. I'm standing here outside of the WWF champion Jeff Jarrett's dressing room. At this time, Jeff Jarrett has not arrived at the arena, but *in* this room are Jesse Jammes and The New Midnight Express. I'm gonna attempt to get a word with them on this situation right now.

Cole repeatedly knocks on the door. Eventually The Roadog answers.

Jammes - What in the hell do you want?

Cole - For the benefit of the people at home, I want to get to the bottom of the Jeff Jarrett situation.

Jammes - What situation?! I'm here, Jarrett ain't. I'm wrestling in the six man tonight and... No, we already told you this, get the hell outta here.

The door slams in Cole's face. We cut straight to the clip from Thunder.

(From May 14th)

[Jammes - Excuse me Jimmy, "The Roadog" Jesse Jammes is here as well. You see, last Monday night, Jammes laid the beat down on Billy Gunn, and on Sunday night, I'm gonna continue the job, becuase *I'm* taking Jeff Jarrett's place in the six man tag. But not only am I gonna take out Billy Gunn, in the el to the ay I'm gonna lay down the bee ee ay tee to the whole team. Triple H, Shawn Michaels, you may have never taken me seriously before, but you'll never forget what I do to you on Sunday night.

Gunn - What Jammes said is right. He's taking the place of Jeff Jarrett this weekend, because there's no way in hell that the WWF is gonna get away with screwing Jeff out of the world title. He's sitting at home right now, taking a well earned break from his gruelling world champion schedule. Come back soon Jeff, we all miss ya!

Holly - Jarrett's got his title safe, but all you people out there, don't start thinking that these tag titles are going anywhere else anytime soon. These titles are staying right round our waists, and on Monday night, you're still gonna be looking at the champions when you look at us. Before we go, I just want to give a personal shout out to Jeff, see ya on Monday night pal!]

Todd - We're almost out of time here folks, and there's two matches I still wanna talk about. The Intercontinental championship is gonna be on the line, as champion Chris Benoit goes one on one with the leader of the Nation, Rocky Maivia. Benoit, due to a knee injury sustained at the beginning of the month, has been absent from WWF television for quite a while now, but he will be here later tonight to defend the title. The Rock hasn't been heard from much either, but believe me, both men are desperate to win this one. Let's go back to last month at WWF In Your House 2 "Bright Lights, Big City".

(Clips of Rock and Benoit duking it out from April 19th are shown, and the resulting doublecountout.)

Todd - I tell ya, Rocky Maivia and Chris Benoit are undoubtedly two of the greatest wrestlers in the world today, and this title match is sure to be a classic. Like I said, The Rock hasn't been seen much lately, and when asked to comment on the *next* match I want to talk about, he refused.

(From May 11th Raw)

[Cole - Rocky, what is your view on Booker T accepting Dustin Runnels' challenge for In Your House?

The Rock keeps walking.

Cole - Rock, one moment of your time please. How do you feel about Booker T leaving the Nation?

Rocky stops.

Rock - Listen jabronie, The Rock thinks it's none of your damn business. It's The Rock's business, and it's the Nation's business, and it's got nothing to do with your little candyass.

Maivia gives Cole a shove before walking off.]

Todd - It's Dustin Runnels against Booker T that I'm talking about here. Again, these two men have been absent from WWF television the last few weeks. To give you a little background on exactly what's going on here, let's go back to April 23rd, following Runnels' quick win over Booker T.

(From April 23rd)

[Runnels - What in the hell was that? I don't know what kind of things have been going on with you since you joined the Nation, but you're half the man you used to be. I'm gonna call you on this. March 30th, lost to Chris Benoit by dq. April 4th, you lost to Chris again, this time by pinfall. As recent as this past weekend, you were defeated by Owen Hart two nights in a row. That ain't the Booker T I know. You haven't won a single godamn wrestling match ever since you alligned yourself with the Rock and his teddy bear. Like I said, that ain't the Booker T I know. The Booker T that was an eight time tag team champion. The Booker T I wrestled with and against during our long careers. We fought all over the country, we even fought in wargames. You always put up one hell of a fight. You take a look in the mirror tonight man, and see if the Booker T you see, is the Booker T you want to be. ]

(From April 27th)

[Booker - Dustin Runnels? Saying what you said last week, embarrasing me, embarrasing the Nation, that ain't allowed. Since I joined The Nation, everything has been going my way. You caught me on a bad night, and that don't mean (beep)! You open your mouth with any of that (beep) again, and I'll make sure you never speak another word.

Dustin Runnels appears from the curtains.

Runnels - Oh really? Look at you, you can't even get your own interview time anymore. You're doing nothing but riding on the coatails of The Rock and you know it.

Rock - The Rock may have some mighty fine coatails, but you're insane if you think there's people riding on them. Sure, half the people in the WWF, in the world, want to be down with the Rock, but that's not the situation. The Nation's a family Dustin. There's bonds here. I guess you know nothing about that Dustin, what with your fat old man and your scraggly whore of a wife.

Runnels starts to run to the ring, but Mark Henry has appeared behind him out of the curtain, and he clobbers Dustin from behind. Henry nails Runnels with a bodyslam and then splashes him on the concrete floor.]

(From May 4th)

[Booker - Hold it right now. I'm sick of this. I'm sick of hearing this crap. I'm tired of you calling me up night after night. You come out here, and you disrespect me. You talk about how you respect me, but when you do this, you're disrespecting me.

Runnels - I don't want to disrespect you, what I want to do is this. I want to face you in a match in LA...

Booker - Yeah, fine.

Runnels - And if I beat you, then you leave the Nation and you get yourself sorted out.

Booker pauses for a second before brushing past Runnels.

Booker - Leave me alone Dustin.

Booker walks up the aisle and disappears behind the curtains...]

Todd - Folks, I hate to say it, but we're outta time. We're just moments away though, from what could be the greatest pay per view in WWF history. We'll see you at In Your House!
